Fermenter design considerations, parameters are found below

BactoVessel range of configurable Single-Use-Fermenter`s are selectable in diameter, height and volume according to the basic information found under Commerce. The ratio between diameter, height, baffle width, baffle orientation, turbine diameter, and turbine orientation are all done according to standards of the industry.

Though selectable basic parameters are:

  • First turbine diameter(s) (D1) are selectable (typical D1 = T/3 – T/2) and the first turbine distance to bottom, C1 = T/6 – T/2 with Rushton, Smith, Bakker turbines.
  • Second turbine (D2) with typical distance 2xD1 to the first turbine, though selectable from 1xD1 to 3xD1.

Turbine rotation is by standard clockwise, right hand turn. In case of partial axial flow (Jacobs) the direction is always upwards.

If a Rushton turbine is selected as the first radial mixing device it often makes sense to add an axial mixing marine impeller above the turbine.

Baffles - See other file on this site

Flat elongated plates secured in the bottom and above the liquid level.

We recommend that any PG 13.5 based sensor is tighten with max 1 Nm into the head plate. We are dealing with plastics for single-use purposes and not stainless steel!
